February Full Moon

On Friday the 14th I took Soc (the dog) out huntin’ for the sunset.  Due to lots of snow, ice and rain, many of our usual sunset watchin’ spots were inaccessible.  We chased the sunset, stopping at 4 different places and not quite getting to the right spot at the right time.  Most of the color was gone from the sky and we decided to head home.  On the drive back I spotted the moon and wow!  I totally forgot it was a full moon tonight.  Beautiful yellow/pink/orange in color and somewhat large in the sky.  I quickly turned around so I could get to the spot where I took this picture. Twisted and Splintered But Not Broken

We went to check out Cedar Creek during mid-February at one of the canoe launches.  While we were there I aimlessly wandered through the woods for a bit and some things caught my eye – this twisted young tree was one of them.

Makes me think of how we can become twisted and splintered when under a lot of stress – but we don’t break.  Unfortunately, I don’t think that little tree will recover from its ordeal.

Salt Water Ice Bubble

We went to check out Cattus Island Park in Toms River, NJ on a 20 degree day in mid-February.  Brrrr – it was cold – especially with the wind whipping off the bay!  Very nice park, saw a few ducks, a heron and some interesting frozen water in the salt marshes.  This is one of the “ice bubbles” I spotted.  I don’t know what it really is – if you do, please let me know 🙂

Winter Tree Abstract

This was created from yet another picture I took while wandering through Historic Smithville in Mount Holly, NJ on a cold, dreary day.  The pond there was frozen over.  I looked down at the frozen ice and saw some tree branches partly encased in ice.  They looked like little miniature bare trees.  Here is what I created from a photo of one of them.  You can see the original below.

Weathered Remnant of Summer

I took this photo during the 2nd week of February.  Under 30 degrees, overcast – COLD!  I was walking around Historic Smithville Park looking for things to say “photograph me!”.  This leaf stood out among the bare trees.  It was one of the few hangers-on from summer when everything was lush and green.  Now it is worn and weathered.
