Rebuilding Again – Seaside Park, NJ

Today was a perfect day to go “down the shore”!

Doug and I drove down to Seaside Park to see how the 2nd re-building was going – and to get a gigantic pizza at “The Sawmill”.

Here is the view from Seaside Park looking towards the boardwalk of Seaside Heights.

First the boardwalk, stores and rides were destroyed or severely damaged by Super Storm Sandy.  Then fire took out several stores, the boardwalk and what was left of Fun Town Pier in Seaside Park.

Talk about “Jersey Strong” and resilience – these folks keep pushing forward no matter what the challenge.

If they can re-build after a the drop-kicks to the gut they’ve received, then can’t we pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off when daily life hits us with a few punches?  I think so!!  Are ya with me?

Gifts of the Seagull Mandala

This mandala was created from my original photograph of a Herring Gull soaring on the wind over Barnegat Bay in NJ.

Seagulls represent curiosity, clarity and freedom.

Curiosity can lead us to soar high and get a total overview of a situation – see things from a different perspective.  This can lead to clarity on a situation which can lead us to choices that ultimately bring us freedom.

These Gulls are all over the place “down the shore” and beyond.  You’re sure to be sharing the beach with them just about any time of year.  And you’ll find them more inland – local ponds, lakes and parking lots!

When they are gathered in large numbers the chances that you will be – um… christened…by one of them is great.

I remember being down the shore with my parents.  My Dad reaches over and says “what’s that in your hair – looks like a string….”.  Yeah…so NOT a string….a dollop of seagull poop making it’s way down my head.  Ah….memories!

Supposedly… being pooped on by a bird is good luck.  Either that, or my parents were just trying to make me happy about being defecated on by a bird!

Do you have any “memorable” encounters with seagulls?  Please, share ’em below…

And if this mandala resonates with you…others will like it too!  Please share, tweet, pin and whatever using the buttons below!  Thanks 🙂

Sandpiper Mandala

Earlier in the week I had the pleasure of watching 2 sandpipers feeding in the surf.  They can be quite comical as the run out when the waves recede then scurry back quickly before they get overtaken by the water.
