A single seagull glides on the ocean air of a deserted beach – tranquil and peaceful.

What could I learn from this “Flight of Tranquility and Peace”?

There are places we can go to find tranquility and peace.  A beach in the middle of winter, for instance.  A less traveled path in a park or woods.  A tucked away bench or tree stump off the beaten path.

I can also choose to turn inward to find peace at times when I might feel like lashing out at the world – or times when I allow the chaos to overwhelm me. I can choose the less popular option of looking within.  I’ve learned that when I feel like loosing it during a situation I benefit from going to that spot of tranquility and peace.  For me that special place can take many forms – sitting silently in meditation, listening to music, taking the dog for a walk – even a quick walk just around the block, wandering through nature.  All give me the opportunity to detach from the hub-bub going on and re-connect with my true tranquil and peaceful self where all is well 🙂

Seagull Overlooking Atlantic City

The cold, cold weather has finally broken (for a few days at least) and we headed down to Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge.  It is just across the water from Atlantic City.

This Herring Seagull was enjoying the 50 degree sunshine while keeping an eye on Atlantic City across the way.

Out to the Foggy Sea Through Barnegat Inlet

Doug, Soc and I went to Island Beach State Park today (Feb. 19, 2014).  It rained all morning and was supposed to clear by mid afternoon.  The rain pretty much stopped but the fog persisted.  We decided to head “down the shore” to Island Beach State Park in hopes of seeing some foxes and that darn elusive Snowy Owl!

No foxes or owls for us.  What we DID get to see was miles and miles of beaches with no one else around.  The waves were crashing constantly causing quite a beautiful ruckus.  I was very surprised to see this fishing vessel heading out to sea shortly before sunset.

A fishing vessel heads out of Barnegat Bay into the Atlantic Ocean in New Jersey.  As seen from Island Beach State Park.
