View from the Southern end of Long Beach Island looking towards Atlantic City at sunset – New Jersey.

This was taking on January 25, 2015.  The day before a major blizzard was to hit the area.

This photo was the reason I was soaked up to my knees!

It was a cold day in December – the Winter Solstice in fact!

The air was crisp with the scent of salt water.

I shot this photo of this beautiful Herring Gull during the 2nd week in December.  It was flying over Barnegat Bay in Seaside Park, NJ.

It was COLD! And I forgot to bring my gloves with me – brrr!

It was worth aching hands to get to see this magnificent bird.

In previous years I would barely pay attention to gulls.  I thought of ’em as all just pesky shore birds that wanted to steal my boardwalk fries (and they will!).

They truly are beautiful.  I especially love how the light shines through his largest feathers on his wings.

We went down to Island Beach State Park (in NJ) late in the afternoon.  We were surprised to see many monarch butterflies enjoying the Seaside Goldenrod.  This is a close-up of one tiny florette from the plant.

Here is a monarch butterfly on one of the goldenrods that Doug captured with his camera:

It was October 8th, the day just after the “Blood Moon”.  We had been up and out bright and early to catch a glimpse of it… and that was what we got – a glimpse before it hid behind the clouds again.

Feeling a bit bummed that we didn’t get any shots of the moon, we headed down to Island Beach State Park later in the day.  Our main goal – seeing foxes 🙂

We were surprised to see a number of monarchs stopping to feast on the yellow plants you see in the bottom left of the above photo.

No foxes though.  Until, we stopped at one more spot on our way out of the park.  At least 3 different foxes came up to investigate us and the dog.  Doug got a beautiful shot of the fox:

Me – I got a beautiful shot of the sunset 🙂
