Deep Cut Gardens Greenhouse - Beth Sawickie

Nature Stroll – Deep Cut Gardens Greenhouse – March 11th, 2015

Someone on Facebook mentioned this greenhouse at Deep Cut Gardens in Middletown, NJ several weeks ago – when it was 25 degrees F and below for long stretches of time.

Greenhouse = warmth, plants, green, color… LIFE!

Deep Cut Gardens Greenhouse - Beth Sawickie

I just “had” to get there!  Problem was…. along with that bitter cold weather came snow, ice and treacherous roads.

This green house was over an hours drive on unfamiliar roads.  So I waited.

I was thrilled to finally make it here!

Here is a Nature Stroll video showing the many occupants of the 80 degree F greenhouse 🙂

There are no chairs in there… but let me tell you, next winter when I’m chilled to the bone… you WILL find me in this greenhouse, possibly sitting on a smuggled-in lounge chair with a nice glass of iced tea and a favorite book 🙂

Black Run Preserve Fall Color by Doug Venner http://bethsawickie.com

A Rainy Day at Black Run Preserve

Today Doug and I ventured to Black Run Preserve in Evesham, NJ.  Neither of us had been there before so we decided to check it out.

We were surprised to find that there is a marked parking area.  There are posted trail maps and the trails are well marked.

It was a warm but dreary day.  Gray, raining on and off – but still a nice day for a walk in the woods.

Flowers – There’s still some around 🙂

I barely got out of the car and I was being drawn to photograph some of the many flowers growing along the path – I think they were Black Eyed Susan’s??

I was like a kid in a candy store – oh, look at that! and there’s another one over there!  Yellow color over there, bright red there, orange spotted thingy there – wow!

Trees, leaves, ‘shrooms everywhere along with a few flowers here and there.

Moths – so cute and furry!

I’m usually pretty good at spotting the often overlooked little things in the forest.  This time, Doug had the eagle eye.  He spotted two of these awesome black, white and orange moths!

If you know the name of this moth, please let me know – until then, I’ll just call him Fred 🙂

Fred (the moth) inspired me to create this mandala:

 Mushrooms – fabulous fungus!

Then there were the ‘shrooms!  Lots of mushrooms along the trails to photograph.  Let me tell you – I am so loving having a macro lens at times like these 🙂

I was on my knees, rear up in the air getting most of the ‘shroom shots.  Even had my head resting on the ground for many of ’em.  Oh – and did I mention that it was raining on and off?  That meant everything was damp.  I had leaves in my hair, dirt all over… it was a good day 😉

Many of ’em were as small as this little guy (some smaller!)

And these two little guys popping out from under the pine needles to say ‘hello’ 🙂

Then there was the poop mushroom…
Doesn’t it look like a pile o’ poop?

I had to get down and the ground and investigate…..

yep, it’s a ‘shroom!

Here are more of the ‘shrooms that I crawled around on the forest floor to photograph 🙂

Here are two of my favorite colors of fall – yellow and orange emanating from beautiful chrysanthemums in fall and forming this beautiful mandala.

I created this mandala from my original photo “Yellow Fall Mums”.

Purple Blooms Mandala

This mandala was created from original photos I took of a flowering tree (white petals) during the end of April, purple flower and iris leaves during the first week in May 2014.

Spring Splendor Mandala

SPRING is here!  Actually it is a little beyond spring and half-way to summer…BUT… it seems like the bursts of beautiful color have just started!  I really think our seasons are a bit behind this year – thanks to the never-ending winter we had (not complainin’- just sayin’.)

To me, this evokes the burst-burst-burst of color popping out.  And the glow of yellow sunshine warming everything against a backdrop of lively green.

This was created from an original flower photo that I took at Whitesbog Village,NJ.  I went there in early May to see what was in bloom.  This is one of the beautiful flowers I saw.  I don’t know what it is called.  Some type of flowering fern?  Are there such things?

Here is the original that I started with.  I really had NO idea it would turn out looking like it does in the mandala.
